What Happens at My Child’s First Dental Appointment?

Posted .

If you’re curious to know what happens at your child’s first dental appointment, then you have come to the right blog. Today, our dentists, Dr. Stan Preece and Dr. Austin Church, are happy to give you the details of the visit so you don’t feel anxious or nervous for your child while they are in the dental chair.

Typically, it’s best to bring your child into Austin R. Church DDS and Associates Pediatric Dentistry for their first appointment about six months after their first tooth erupted or around their first birthday. When you two come into our office, you can expect the following things to happen:

-A review of your child’s health history (We will ask you multiple questions to get a good idea of your child’s overall health.)

-A simple oral exam (We will use our fingers and small dental tools to gently examine your child’s mouth, including the teeth, gums, cheeks, palate and throat.)

-A chance to ask our team questions (We welcome any questions you have and we’re happy to give you the answers you need.)

-A chance for your child to get to know our dentist and dental team (When your child gets to know our team, especially at a young age, it reduces the chance of having dental anxiety in the future.)

-An overview of how to care for your child’s teeth and gums (We will give you tips on how to properly clean and care for the smile. We will also give you tips on how to prevent dental injuries and on the best and worst habits for the child’s teeth and gums.)

Call Austin R. Church DDS and Associates Pediatric Dentistry today at 817-741-6100 if you have any questions or if you would like to know more.
